ICC hosts info sessions for Highway Construction careers training

Illinois Central College offers a highway construction careers training program to prepare participants for careers in the highway construction trades industry. The intensive 12-week training program covers construction math, job readiness, blueprint reading, construction technical skills, introduction to welding, first aid, CPR, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour certification. The program includes classroom learning, skills labs, and actual job site work. The next class session begins on August 19, 2013.

Successful candidates must be 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and have a valid driver’s license and consent to random drug screening. Program participants receive $5 per hour stipend, work boots, and a set of construction tools.

ICC partners with the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Community College Board to offer the program which is designed to increase the number of women, minorities, and disadvantaged individuals working on IDOT highway construction projects. The program is offered through the Corporate and Community Education Department at ICC.
