Illinois Central College’s Diversity Department will sponsor Dr. Jeffrey Sterling for a presentation on health promotion and his personal adventures as a physician in Peoria and worldwide on Saturday, November 14, from 2 to 4 pm, in the Arbor Hall Auditorium on the ICC North Campus, located at 5407 N. University St., Peoria.
Sterling is a world-renowned and respected physician who trained in Peoria and worked at all three Peoria hospitals. His career has taken him to Cook County Hospital emergency room and as head of ERs in Washington DC, Milwaukee, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. He also is a global leader in community-based medicine, is the CEO of SterlingMedicalAdvice.com and 844-SMA-TALK. His popular blog Straight, No Chaser has more than 36,000 online fans.
Sterling holds degrees from Northwestern University, Harvard school of Public Health and University of Illinois College of Medicine-Peoria. He is active in many community and professional association and serves as President of Northwestern University Black Alumni Association and is chair of the Alpha Phi Alpha Endowment fund at Northwestern University. He founded the Minority Association for Pre-Health students (MAPS), with chapters in approximately 300 colleges nationwide.
The event is free and open to the public. No reservations required. Sterling also will be available to sign his newly released book, Behind the Curtain, a Peek at Life in the ER. The book offers an unfiltered look at Sterling’s career in emergency medicine in Peoria and nationwide. Books will be available for purchase and are sold online at jeffreysterlingbooks.com.
