Two new art exhibits are scheduled to open in the two art galleries on the Illinois Central College East Peoria Campus on November 11.
“My First Play,” featuring the mixed media work of Martin Nyarko, opens November 11 and runs through December 4 in Gallery 336B, located in the Academic Building.
“Nature and Nurture,” an exhibit featuring the paintings of Stella Zee, opens with an artist talk at noon and opening reception from noon to 2 pm on November 11 in the Performing Arts Center Gallery. The exhibit runs through January 15.
Nyarko resides in Yakima, Wash., and is currently an art instructor at Yakima Valley Community College. He graduated from the University of Idaho with a master of fine art degree in studio art. His art involves a playful assemblage of found objects and uses various cultural iconography and narratives to bring viewers to a place where conventional materials are glorified into precious possessions.
Zee lives and works in Chicago. She was born in Shanghai, China and, as a young child, spent her formative years in Hong Kong before moving with her family to Sao Paulo, Brazil. She earned a master of fine arts degree in painting from the School of the Art Institute. She has shown extensively in Chicago and has taught at the Art Institute and the Evanston Art Center. She lives and works in Chicago.
