ICC Children’s Center Receives ExceleRate Illinois Gold Circle of Quality Designation

Illinois Central College Children’s Center recently received the Gold Circle of Quality designation from ExceleRate Illinois, the state’s new quality rating and improvement system for early learning and development providers. The award shows continuous quality improvement commitment to the families and children it serves.

“Every early learning and development provider who participates in ExceleRate Illinois makes quality a priority,” said Theresa Hawley, executive director, Governor’s Office of Early Childhood Development. “The higher the designation, the higher the program’s demonstrated quality and comprehensiveness in meeting children’s early learning needs.”

ICC Children’s Center Director Melanie Fleming said the award is a major step toward continuously improving both the services the center provides to area children and the educational experiences students in the College’s Child Development program receive as well.

“Providing quality in early learning and development will help the children in our community be better prepared for success in school and in life,” Fleming said. “We are proud to offer this level of quality to both the families we serve and the students we are training to be the next generation of childcare service providers.”

ExceleRate Illinois is a comprehensive system that includes licensed child care centers, Preschool for All and Center-Based Prevention Initiative Programs, Head Start and Early Head Start Programs. It helps families make more informed choices about their children’s early learning and establishes standards to help infants, toddlers and preschoolers develop intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally. Additionally, it provides a framework for early learning and development professionals to identify opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills.

The Children’s Center provides quality care for children aged 2 and toilet trained to their 6th birthday and offers discounts to ICC students and employees. For more information, visit icc.edu/children or call Melanie Fleming at (309) 694-5116.
