CTE Month : A passion for education

February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month at ICC. This month ICC is highlighting students from various CTE programs.

Margaret Schwab came to the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program in an unexpected way. After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Eureka College in 2015, Margaret had trouble finding a job that interested her.

“I knew then that I needed to pursue more schooling in something more specific to my interest in helping people, while also being in the medical field.”

Margaret began searching for a new education opportunity. Then she found out about the MLT Program at ICC.

“I looked into [the MLT career] … and realized it was something that I would be interested in.”

Margaret quickly enrolled in the program and found that ICC had been the educational opportunity she had been looking for.

“The teachers and my peers have challenged me to be the best. The teachers really push you to use your mind instead of just memorizing everything and delivering it onto a piece of paper…”

After completing the MLT program in May 2016, Margaret plans to work while continuing her education. In her words, “more knowledge never hurts.”

“A lady once told me with an education you can go anywhere and do anything and that is one thing that no person can take from you.”
