LEED “Green Building” Training Set for January

The Professional Development Institute at Illinois Central College will offer a 17-week course on LEED Preparation Training specifically for “green” construction personnel. The class meets Wednesdays, 3:30 — 5 pm, January 13 — May 12, 2010, at the ICC Perley Building, 115 SW Adams, Peoria. (No class on February 10 and 17.)
The series provides a comprehensive look at sustainable building construction from both theoretical and practical points of view. Content covers the seven areas of analysis developed by the U.S. Green Building Council’s 2009 LEED program — sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, innovation and design process, and regional priority. The major LEED project categories (schools, existing buildings/operations and maintenance, new construction/major renovation, commercial interiors, and core and shell) and the new pilot neighborhood development will be discussed.
The training is intended for contractors, suppliers, apprenticeship instructors, architects and engineers, and others who work in the building construction industry. After completing the course, participants should have the knowledge necessary to understand and implement green, sustainable practices and systems, which are increasingly being mandated for building projects.
Training tuition is $1,350 per participant which includes all training materials and the LEED Green Associate exam and application. Scholarships are available (based on eligibility) through a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Community-Based Job Training Program. At the course conclusion, participants apply for LEED Green Associate certification and sit for the examination.
