Placement Testing

Academic placement testing is required of all full time students. Tranfer and part-time students are evaluated on an individual basis to determine testing needs.

About COMPASS
Illinois Central College uses a computer-adaptive testing system from American College Testing (ACT) called COMPASS which includes three tests: Math, English, and Reading. The testing is used as a guide for placement in the appropriate level of class and is not pass/fail, but a tool to assure your educational success. As this test is adaptive, each student receives a different number of items. After you respond to each item, COMPASS then selects another item for you of appropriate difficulty. COMPASS is designed for individuals with little or no computer experience.

How do I sign up?
Testing is available at all ICC campuses. Call the campus of your choice for available test times and to make a reservation. Reservation are required at all campuses
