UnityPoint Wellmobile at the CougarPlex :: Nov. 29

The last Wellmobile of the year will be here November 29 from 7:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the CougarPlex.

Screenings available include:

**Standard screenings

Blood pressure screening: This screening can assess an individual’s risk for heart disease or stroke. It is offered as a portion of all other Wellmobile screenings but may be conducted alone.

Requirements: No appointment necessary

Cost: Free

Cholesterol screening: This screening requires a small blood sample from the finger. It measures total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), triglycerides and the ratio of total cholesterol to HDL. These factors help determine your risk for heart attack, stroke and/or diabetes. The cholesterol screening is offered as part of all Wellmobile screenings unless otherwise noted.

Requirements: An 8-12 hour fast is required for the cholesterol screening. No appointment necessary.

Cost: Free

Blood glucose (sugar) screening: This screening requires a small blood sample from the finger. Your blood glucose level can help assess your risk for diabetes. The blood glucose screening is offered as part of all Wellmobile screenings unless otherwise noted.

Requirements: An 8-12 hour fast is required for the blood glucose screening. No appointment necessary.

Cost: Free

Spirometry screening:

This screening tests lung function to determine a person’s risk for emphysema, COPD and other diseases of the lungs. Spirometry is offered with all Wellmobile screenings.

Requirements: Must be under age 80 to participate. No appointment necessary.

Cost: Free

**Additional screenings

Blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, and spirometry (lung function) are also included with these screenings.

Vascular Screening: This screening measures blood pressures in your arms and ankles to see if you are at risk for peripheral artery disease (PAD). PAD causes the arteries to the arms, legs and internal organs to narrow and increases a person’s risk for heart attack or stroke.

Requirements: Participants must have clean and dry feet and be able to remove shoes, socks, or stockings.

Cost: Free

Heart Screening (EKG): A heart screening includes a full electrocardiogram (EKG). It measures and records the electrical impulses generated from cells as they travel through the heart. This test may detect abnormalities in the rhythm of the heart. These abnormalities may indicate an increased risk for heart attack, heart disease or stroke.

Requirements: Participants must be able to remove their shirt for this screening. We recommend wearing a button-down shirt. No appointment necessary.

Cost: $40 cash or check. Exact change is appreciated

Prostate Screening: A prostate screening is recommended for men over the age of 50. From a sample of blood, a laboratory tests the level of a certain type of protein, prostate-specific antigen (PSA), produced by the prostate gland. The level of this protein can indicate risk of an enlarged prostate, prostate cancer or other prostate-related problems.

Requirements: No appointment necessary.

Cost: $25 cash or check. Exact change is appreciated.
