Senator Dick Durbin visits ICC

Senator Dick Durbin meets area industry leaders and ICC Administration to talk about strengthening job ready initiatives throughout Central Illinois.

Senator Dick Durbin paid a visit to Illinois Central College in support of a bill written by Senator Al Franken and sponsored by Senator Durbin which was introduced in the Senate this week.

The Community College to Career Fund Act would create a competitive grant program to fund partnerships between two-year colleges and businesses, training individuals for high-demand industries, such as health care, advanced manufacturing, clean energy and information technology. Senator Durbin spoke on the bill and the need for programs to help equip and build-up the local workforce through community colleges.

Senator Durbin’s visit to ICC included a tour through some of the colleges industrial technology and welding labs, a press conference with remarks from Senator Durbin, and a short question and answer session with local industry leaders.
