ICC Softball scores a homerun with Pink Game 2013

The Lady Cougars rallied around one of their own for their annual PINK Game fundraiser on Wednesday, April 3.

Freshman 3rd Base Player Katie Tobias #12 has faced a tough year with her family : Katie’s grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer in February and her father was diagnosed with cancer only three weeks ago.

Freshman Katie Tobias (#12 – 3rd Base) with her father Dave Tobias at the ICC Softball Annual Pink Game. Dave, diagnosed with cancer only three weeks prior, was honored to throw out the first pitch.

The Lady Cougars Softball Team is supporting Katie and her family, donating the proceeds from their annual PINK Game Fundraiser towards the families’ medical costs. Dave Tobias fired down the first pitch to start the game followed by heartfelt tears and hugs.

“We are working hard to raise money to help the Tobias family during this tough time,” ICC Head Softball Coach Heather Doty said. “Dave’s cancer is very rare so finding options for treatments that will last long term have been a challenge.  With this hitting so close to home the players are going the extra mile to raise money.”

The Lady Cougars split their double against Parkland College – taking the first game 3-2 and giving up the second 3-1. Check out ICC Harbinger reporter Jason Ellis’ full recap at their website ‘Softball: Pink Night a Success‘.
