ICC Receives $5,000 Donation from VFW Post 814

Illinois Central College Veterans Affairs office today received a $5,000 donation from Peoria VFW Post 814 to benefit student veterans at the College. ICC is currently determining how best to use the donation.

“The Veterans Affairs office at ICC is honored to have been chosen by VFW Post 814 to be the recipient of this very generous donation,” said Veterans Affairs Coordinator Marie Marcotte. “We appreciate the trust the post has in use to use the money for our student veterans’ best interests.”

“While serving in the military, our commitment was serving our country. Now as veterans, we still have the same goals, but with the added emphasis of commitment to our community,” said VFW Post 814 Service Officer Alan Harkrader, who presented the check to ICC and thanked the student veterans for their service.

“Our members at VFW Post 814 selected the ICC Veterans Affairs program to help and assist fellow veterans with their education. Education is a continuing part of life that leads to becoming productive citizens.”

ICC’s Veterans Affairs assists students in making the transition from military to civilian life and provides resources on the benefits available to veterans, including information on resources to begin or complete their education.

ICC currently has 450 student veterans enrolled for the fall 2015 semester.
