ICC “Between the Lines” Program Explores the Meaning of Family in Tayari Jones’ Novel “Silver Sparrow”

Join Illinois Central College’s “Between the Lines” program as professors Paul Resnick and Margot Vance, Peoria Public Library Assistant Director Roberta Koscielski, and Wayne Cannon of Commonplace explore the meaning of family in Tayari Jones’ novel Silver Sparrow. Be part of the discussion about parent and teenage relations, the meaning of family, and the great writing in this novel on Tues., March 7 at 7 pm in the Arbor Auditorium on the ICC North Campus, located at 5407 N. University St. in Peoria.

This beautifully written novel is about two half-sisters and a bigamist father who tries to keep both families from connecting in 1980s Atlanta. The first half of the novel is told through the eyes of one half-sister and the second half is told through the eyes of the other half sister.

“Between the Lines” is a lecture series presented by the faculty members of the English, Humanities and Language Studies Department at ICC. The goal of the series is to offer literary presentations which will interest students and people in the community as well as promote reading literacy and scholarly study.

The programs are free and open to the public.
