ESL Instructor Robin Halsey co-presents on ‘Rethinking Teacher Roles’ at Sunshine State TESOL Conference

Robin Halsey, adjunct instructor of English as a Second Language in ICC’s College and Career Readiness Department, and Sarah Magana, R.N., OSF Medical Center, co-presented “Get on Board: Rethinking Teacher Roles in Adult Literacy Programs” at the 37th annual Sunshine State TESOL Conference in St. Petersburg, Florida, on May 7-9. The presentation explored the various roles instructors play in the classroom and promoted the benefits of integrating a balanced approach that is designed to meet the unique needs of adult learners. Halsey and Magana demonstrated activities and techniques that they have utilized in ESL classes and Introduction to Nursing classes, focusing on ways to enhance the fluency, accuracy, and motivation of adult students in ESL or other academic programs.
