This beautifully written novel is about two half-sisters and a bigamist father who tries to keep both families from connecting in 1980s Atlanta. The first half of the novel is told through the eyes of one half-sister and the second half is told through the eyes of the other half-sifter. Come join us for a lively discussion about parent and teenage relations, the meaning of family and especially about some very good writing. By looking at renown authors use of “trigger words/situations”, implications of truth, against the “norm” behaviors and their rhetorical or persuasive structure; one can be able to understand why we love to read a memoir. Their reliability and unique structures make them a literary genre anyone can partake in and also a valuable real world read. This session will draw on specific memoirs including but not limited to The Liars’ Club by Mary Karr, When You’re Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris and Loitering by Charles D’Ambrosia.
