Between the Lines: Oh, the Horror!

Why do some love to be scared while others hate it? Can the horror in fiction prepare us for the horrors of reality? Just in time for Halloween, this presentation will take a look at common themes in macabre tales and the psychology behind our love (or hate) of scary stories. We’ll discuss works by Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, Clive Barker, Ray Bradbury, and more.

Attendees will have a chance to win Spook-Tacular horror themed door prizes!

Between the Lines: Giving Thanks to the Writers Who Move Us

Let’s share our love of great writing!  As we think about all that we’re thankful for, this Between The Lines event asks us to give thanks to the writers who move us.  This participatory, reader-centered event encourages us to share a reading from a favorite book and how the reading has impacted us. We’ll leave with a list of new books to read and a stronger sense of our reading community.

The event will include a take-a-book, leave-a-book table.
