Illinois Central College provides diversity education both internally, for faculty, staff, and students, and externally for the community. Our approach to diversity education is based upon the following philosophy:
Diversity is an asset to teaching, learning, and working
The best solutions to community problems derive from a democratic and collaborative community process
Diversity education is best achieved through a pedagogical approach that emphasizes dialogue rather than lecture
Due to its very humanistic and personal characteristics, the most effective learning about diversity comes through experience and dialogue. Instructional conversations and simulated exercises are therefore emphasized in our approach and to diversity education.
