Business Information Education (BIE) Program

In 2009, Illionis Central College received a Department of Education Title VI-B Grant to send students to study Mandarin Chinese, International Business and Chinese Culture for three months at Shenzhen Polytechnic in Shenzhen, China. While in Shenzhen, students take Mandarin classes, participate in a business internship with the Bosch Corporation and take an online ICC Business class. The students also participate in a grant funded business trip within China where they tour both internationally and domestically owned facilities throughtout China.

The students receive twelve transferrable ICC credits - eight in Mandarin Chinese and four in Business. Students are not required to have a background in Mandarin or Business and all majors are encouraged to apply! Thanks to the Department of Education Grant, the trip is very affordable. The entire cost of the semester to the individual is under $2000 - this covers ICC tuition and most personal expenses the student would incur. Most of the experience, including the airfare, tuition in China and lodging in China is paid for by the scholarship. Additionally, those who are already receiving financial aid can generally apply that to their own expenses.
