Physical Therapist Assistant

Associate in Applied Science (Career Program) - 66 Credit Hours

Program Information/Mission:

The mission of the physical therapist assistant program is to prepare students for employment as a physical therapist assistant by educating them in the knowledge, skills, and behaviors as an entry-level physical therapist assistant.

Admission to the Program:

(1) High school graduate or equivalent; 2) Placement test scores into ENGL 110 and READ 115; (3) ACT composite score of 20 or above (18 or above if tested prior to Oct. 28, 1989);  (4) 1 year high school chemistry or CHEM 115 ("C" or better); (5) 1 year high school mathematics; (6) Minimum "C" average in courses you are transferring to ICC;  (7) Minimum "C" average in 18 or more approved semester hours taken at ICC including a course in reading, and study skills; (8) Completion of math and science courses if not taken in high school (for students not initially admissable to program); (9) 20 hours of documented observation in two different physical therapy departments; (10) Drug screen, fingerprint criminal background check, physical exam, and immunization will be required following program acceptance;  (11) Upon program acceptance, proof of current CPR certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider (HLTH 041 at ICC or equivalent).    Proof must be in the form of an original or photocopy of the course completion card issued by the AHA.  CPR certification must remain current throughout the program.
