Cougars cruise over DACC; ICC 80, Danville 32
Jasmine Levy’s career high 19 points led four Cougars in double figures as the #5 ICC women’s basketball team cruised to an 80-32 win over Danville Area CC (1-12) on Thursday evening at Ramsey Gym. The win was the first Region 24 victory for ICC, who is now 12-3 overall and 1-0 in Region 24.
The Cougars worked on taking care of the basketball better and saw that pay off in the first half. Aubrey Magro and Abby Coates each scored on layups on assists by Emma Henderson, and then Magro hit Levy for an old-fashioned three-point play, giving ICC a 7-2 lead. Henderson nailed a three on the next possession (assist Isreal Evans) and then Sia Williams copy-catted Levy’s move, getting her own hoop and some harm, followed by a Kellyn Maynard score (assist Evans), and ICC went up 15-4. Two freebies by Levy, a Madison Faulkner basket (assist Levy), and another Henderson bomb (assist Magro) put ICC up 22-8 after the first quarter.
ICC kept the clamps on at the defensive end, outscoring DACC 37-7 in the middle quarters to put the game out of reach. Highlights included: charges taken by Faulkner and Coates, another trey by Henderson, a good post up and under by Levy, Maynard scoring in transition, Williams cashing in for three on the right baseline, a driving layup for Magro, and Evans dashing to the hoop for a score inside. Danville did manage 17 points in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late, and ICC took the victory.
