Women’s Basketball Capture Another W
Henson Helps Cougars Handle Bryant &Stratton
Brianna Henson’s career-high 20 points and 8 rebounds led four players in double figures as #11 ICC women’s basketball defeated Bryant & Stratton 87-69 on Wednesday night in Milwaukee. The Cougars, now 14-5, also dominated on the glass, out-rebounding the hosts 57-28 and turning 25 offensive rebounds into 35 points.
ICC got off to a great start, scoring on eight of their first ten possessions with Kellyn Maynard, Serena Meiss, and Bailey Larsen (3-pointer-assist Brandi Fier) scoring on half court sets to put ICC up 7-2. The Cougars stretched it to 17-7 on a Henson put-back and then kept rolling as Fier dished out assists to Henson, Larsen, and Meiss to give ICC a 27-15 lead and the Cougars were up 29-15 after one.
Unfortunately for the Cougars, their “evil twin-sister” started out the second quarter, allowing the Bobcats to go on a 10-0 run and close their deficit to 29-24 (aided by four ICC turnovers). A Jasmine Elliott layup broke the drought, and thanks to a Fier three-pointer and two Henson scores, the Cougars were up 43-35 at half.
Sommer Burgard gave a boost to start the third, scoring the first seven Cougar points, but B&S struck back to keep the Cougars in check and ICC took a 63-52 lead going into the final quarter. Burgard and Meiss combined for a 7-0 run to start the 4th and make the score 70-52, followed by a Larsen trey to finally break the game open at 73-52 and the Cougars coasted from there with the final score of 87-69.
