Women’s Basketball Handle Rock Valley

ICC Ladies Handle Rock Valley

The ICC women’s basketball team used a solid team effort to defeat Rock Valley College 63-43 on Monday night in Rockford. The ladies showed their Christmas spirit as they gave out 21 assists and also used strong bench play, outscoring the Eagles’ bench 31-0 to put a halt to RVC’s ten-game win streak.

ICC opened with a 6-1 lead behind a Jasmine Elliott bucket and two Brandi Fier layups and took a 12-8 lead after one quarter.  The Cougars stretched their lead to 24-16 on a Bailey Larsen three-pointer (assist Fier) and settled for a 28-21 halftime advantage as Larsen hit a layup in the closing seconds.

Elliott got ICC going with a basket inside to start the half, followed by Kellyn Maynard and Sommer Burgard scores (assists Fier) to go up 34-23.  Larsen splashed in a trey and Henson scored on an old-fashioned three-point play (assists Fier) to put the Cougars up 41-25 in the middle of the third to break the game open.  ICC continue to thwart the Eagles’ attack with solid defense, and Larsen nailed two more fourth quarter bombs to put the game out of reach. The Cougars were tough on the defensive end, holding Rock Valley to 28% shooting (15-54) and forcing 19 turnovers on the evening.

The Cougars would like to wish all of our families and fans a Merry Christmas! One other note..final semester grades were posted today and our ladies had an excellent semester in the classroom! Kudos to Brandi Fier and Kellyn Maynard for earning 4.0 GPA’s and to all of our ladies for their efforts. We do not have a cumulative GPA as of yet,  but it will easily be above a 3.0 as a team. We appreciate our players for taking pride in being student-athletes at ICC!
