Cougars Take Down #17 IVCC

The ICC women’s basketball team played with an improved intensity on Saturday, leading to a 79-56 win over #17 Illinois Valley CC in Oglesby. The Cougars were in the passing lanes, had good ball pressure, and helped out on defense, which all contributed to making life easier on the offensive end.

ICC started out with an 8-2 lead on a Bri Henson layup and 3-pointer (assists Brandi Fier) followed by an old-fashioned three-point play by Sommer Burgard. The Cougars finished the quarter on a 7-0 run as Kellyn Maynard scored inside, Bailey Larsen nailed a trey, and Krystal Walker scored on a jumper to go up 17-6 after the first period. Maynard and Walker teamed up for 15 points in the 2nd quarter to extend the Cougar advantage to 39-20 at half.

The Eagles kept fighting in the third quarter, cutting their deficit to 44-29, but a Larsen three-ball gave ICC some breathing room and  took a 54-37 lead into the 4th. IVCC kept up their pressure, but the Cougars handled it with strong passing and cruised to the win.
