Women’s Basketball Defeats Robert Morris-Peoria
Brandi Fier’s 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists led #11 ICC women’s basketball team to a 63-34 victory over Robert Morris-Peoria on Wednesday night at Ramsey Gym. The Cougars moved to 5-3 on the season while RMU-P dropped to 1-3.
The Cougars sped out to a 12-0 lead in the beginning minutes but then shot themselves in the foot at the end of the first period as they went the final seven possessions without scoring a basket, allowing RMU-P to close the gap to 17-7 after the first quarter. The Cougar offense continued to roll behind Fier, Kellyn Maynard, and Sommer Burgard, and ICC took a 39-17 halftime lead as they shot 52% from the field (16-31).
The second half was not pretty by any stretch of the imagination, with both teams barely scoring a point a minute in the 3rd quarter and ICC took a 50-30 lead. ICC took hurried shots, didn’t run their offenses patiently and shot only 24% in the 2nd half, while the Eagles were at 19%. Burgard was the only other Cougar in double figures (15 pts), while Maynard and Kalyn Lyons each finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds.
FG percentage: 25-68 (37%)

FT percentage: 9-9 (100%)
