Associate in Applied Science

Radiographers use x-ray equipment to produce images of the tissues, organs, bones, and vessels of the body to help in the diagnosis of disease or injury. Radiographers work in hospitals, clinics, and physician offices.

Students are educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection, and basic patient care. Students will have over 1,600 hours of supervised hands-on clinical experience working side-by-side in radiology departments with experienced radiographers at area UnityPoint Health hospitals. 

A Quality Education

Graduates of this program will be eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists national registry exam and upon successful completion of that exam, seek employment in a medical facility as a registered radiologic technologist.

How Do I Get Into the Radiographer Program?

Radiographers are an integral part of a healthcare team who use technologically advanced equipment to help in the diagnosis of disease or injury. Talk to an Admissions representative to learn how to get started.

  1. Complete our quick admissions application.
  2. Submit health science application.
  3. Apply for financial aid (FAFSA).
  4. Apply for ICC Scholarships. Just 1 application for over 700 scholarships.
  5. To pursue this career, you must enjoy math and science, be a caring, compassionate person, be very precise about your work, and be able to communicate effectively.
  6. Upon acceptance to the program, applicants will have to complete a drug screen, fingerprint criminal background check, physical exam, and immunizations.

What Can I Expect As a Radiographer Student?

Accreditation

The Radiography Program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (http://jrcert.org/) 20 N. Wacker Drive, Suite 2850, Chicago, IL 60606-3182, phone (312) 704-5300. The last site visit was in September 2017 with a resulting full, eight-year accreditation, the maximum award of accreditation from the JRCERT. The next accreditation site visit is tentatively scheduled for the third quarter of 2025.

Program Mission

The mission of the Radiographer Program is to prepare competent entry-level radiographers able to function within the healthcare community.

Goal 1: Students/Graduates will be clinically competent.
